Breaking Bad is ending this year, and Mad Men next, so the question has been raised about what AMC might look like going forward. But the network has a series coming this summer called Low Winter Sun, which looks like a dark, morally complex, revisionist cop show that kicks off with one police detective murdering another.
If that premise sounds familiar, it’s because that’s the exact same setup as The Shield, although Low Winter Sun is set in a different city (Detroit) and has a very different visual style. The series stars perennial movie character actor Mark Strong as well as Lennie James, who had a memorable turn in the early days of another AMC show, The Walking Dead. And David Costabile, best known as Gale on Breaking Bad, is on board as well.
