Tuesday, a trailer was leaked via blogger Perez Hilton, but was pulled hours later.
The focal point of many viewer’s comments was Hathaway’s singing of “I Dreamed a Dream.” Opinions are divided; while Perez Hilton sang his praises, Richard Lawson of the Atlantic Wire commented that it was “not so good.” Hathaway’s voice was abnormally shakey, though this could be attributed to the decrepit state of her character or Hooper’s choice to have all musical numbers performed live. Fans will be able to make their own judgements when the movie comes to theaters on Dec. 14.
Past film adaptations include the 1998 film starring Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush, and the 1952 version starring Michael Rennie and Robert Newton. Having debuted in 1985, the stage musical is the second longest-running musical in the world.
