After making the festival rounds late last year and early this year, Neil Jordan’s “Byzantium” has one last stop to make in its way to theaters – Tribeca, next week. Before any of that though, a new international trailer has been released, clarifying once and for all that this won’t be no “Twilight”.
True, “Byzantium” is a vampire movie, but it looks a lot more like the profoundly emotional 1994 “Interview with the Vampire”. Only, you know, with cute chicks instead of hunky men, as Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton will be replacing Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.
It’s even advertised as coming from the makers of “Interview with the Vampire”, meaning the same director and even two of the same producers – Redmond Morris and Stephen Woolley.
But pardon my superficiality in calling “Byzantium” a movie starring a couple of cute chicks. That’s uncalled for, because the thing actually looks like it will go a little deeper than vampire flicks tend to do lately. Also, Ronan and Arterton are two very talented actresses, so, given the right material, they should make “Byzantium” a very enjoyable and emotional drama.
Expect to see the movie in theaters starting June 28 (most likely in limited release) and on VOD soon after, and don’t forget to check out the trailer below:
