It’s taken nearly nine years to resurrect him from the (assumed) dead, but Vin Diesel‘s night vision aided antihero, Richard B. Riddick, is back with a new adventure in the David Twohy helmed trequel bearing the character’s surname. After the surprise success of “Pitch Black” in 2000, the filmmaker further expanded the master criminal’s mythos with the big budget bomb “The Chronicles of…” in 2004. After nearly a decade gleaning as much cult cred as the home video market can offer, Twohy now has the greenlight to continue his ambitious sci-fi saga with Diesel once again reprising the role.
This latest installment, taking place after Part 2, sees Riddick battling bounty hunters (and, as usual, hostile extraterrestrials) on a bared desert planet. One look at the trailer’s over the top action and CG eye candy and it looks like the filmmaker has found his niche once again. Too bad we have to wait until September to see if it meets expectations. One thing’s for sure. Thanks to a career resurrection at the hands of the “Fast & Furious” franchise, this once written off bald headed behemoth appears back on top – at least, for now.
