Good news, everyone! The wait is finally over. Futurama is returning with new episodes of its final season on Wednesday night so be sure to cancel your plans or set your DVR. Episode 14 – the first of this half-season- will air at 10:00 PM Eastern on Comedy Central and it will have you laughing at the edge of your seat (due to both the hilarity and the intensity). The episode is entitled “2-D Blacktop,” and it is a non-stop ride that all Futurama fans are sure to enjoy.

The episode starts with the Professor tinkering away on the crew’s delivery ship. Much to Leela’s dismay, the Professor has opted to trade in safety for speed leading the two to clash over the Professor’s “need for speed” and Leela’s “nafety for safety.” The ship ends up wrecked after the Professor’s installation and is towed away. As a result, the Professor feels neglected and he leaves Planet Express to retrieve his ship from the junkyard. Even better, you get to see the Professor sporting a beanie.

Basically, what happens after the Professor steals his ship back is a can’t-miss parody of “The Fast and the Furious.” There’s even a strong female character with a “verbally abusive father,” though it is the words that he didn’t say that hurt the most. The Professor teams up with this new gang after earning their respect. In the words of a driver, “Wrinkles got some mad moves, yo!”

Meanwhile, Leela has invested in the minivan equivalent of a ship. While taking it out for a spin, she finds herself next to the Professor and his new crew. What happens next is a street race to end all street races, and you could literally say it transcends dimensions. Be sure to tune in to see the result.

The second new installment is a romantic Futurama episode that focuses on the budding relationship between Fry and Leela and is entitled, “Fry and Leela’s Big Fling.” The couple is desperate to keep their affections private but their romantic date is constantly ruined by their coworkers’ intrusions (take a hint, Zoidberg).

Also, there’s a Batman reference so that’s an automatic win.

Targeted advertising leads the anxious couple to take a vacation to a private resort in the hopes of finally getting some alone time. You also get to see Leela in a pair of single shade sunglasses. However, Leela’s ex-boyfriend is at the resort as well, which obviously puts a damper on the trip. Eventually he leaves and the couple can finally spend time together on their private island…or so they’re inclined to believe.

Meanwhile, the Planet Express crew makes a delivery to Simian 7 which means Amy has to don her marmoset costume to blend in. Here, they encounter and old friend and marmoset Amy gets hit on for her upright posture.  Tune in to see the stunning conclusion, and well to see Amy in a marmoset costume.

I give these two episodes the highest five star rating possible.
