He got his start in radio before reverting to television hosting duties, most notably as the snark to Jenny McCarthy’s sex appeal on the ungodly popular MTV dating show hit Singled Out. He made appearances in movies such as ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ and ‘Halloween II’ and even acted as the mischievous MC for the ‘Tosh.O’ like ‘Web Soup.’ He’s played to happy patrons as a stand-up comedian (mostly alongside his partner, Mike Phirman, as “Hard and Phirm”) and expanded into the brave new world of cyberspace. Indeed in 2013, Chris Hardwick has ridden a rise in geek culture to become “The Nerdist,” host of a celebrated podcast of the same name and definer of all things dork. Funny, I don’t remember voting for him as leader of said sect.
Now Comedy Central has come calling and, as reported last month, they are giving Hardwick his own late night series. It is scheduled to arrive this Fall and follow the wicked one-two punch of ‘The Daily Show‘ and ‘The Colbert Report.’ And now, according to LaughSpin.com, it has a name – ‘@Midnight’ (meh…). Oddly, with this new announcement, the actual show may not be exactly what fans were expecting. Originally, it was rumored that Hardwick would be hosting a chat fest ala his recent ‘Nerdist’ series for BBC America. Now, it looks like Twitter and the social media will play an important role in what is being labeled a “rapid fire game show” style effort. On the positive side, it is being co-produced by Funny Or Die and executive produced by ‘The State’/'Reno: 911′ alum Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant.
