Good news, everyone! If you thought last week’s news about the Simpsons, Family Guy crossover was mind-blowing, there’s even more cartoon teamwork coming your way. Here’s a hint: the common denominator is creator Matt Groening. In 2014, there will also be a Simpsons, Futurama crossover event. At the Simpsons Comic-Con panel, Al Jean shared the exciting crossover news that the episode will either be a season 25 finale in May or a season 26 premiere for the fall.
Jean revealed the reasoning to EW:
“Futurama is such an easy fit,” he said. “It’s really funny, and their show lends itself to any variety of plot lines. By having them on, we have a little freedom… The biggest thrill for me is that we don’t have to adjust the animation style.”
For the plot, Jean provided these details:
“Bender has to come back from the future to kill Bart because there’s something that Bart does now that makes the future really, really, really bad.”
Sadly, this is Futurama’s last season (so they say), so this crossover is a nice extra something for fans of the show.
For fans of The Simpsons, the Comic-Con panel also revealed a special guest star for The Simpsons this season. Zach Galifianakis will lend his talents to the Springfield scene. Jean tells EW: “Lisa befriends this chubby little boy who wants to be a competitive eater.”
