Robert Downey Jr.Finally! Fi-na-lly! Let me say that one more time: finally! What am I so worked up about? I’ll get to that in a minute.

First, some background information. Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most talented, versatile and outright smooth actors of his generation. That’s not a personal opinion, it’s a fact. The guy killed it in “Chaplin”, when he was only 27 years old and got nominated for an Oscar that, just my two cents, was awarded to Al Pacino more as a consolation prize.

Unfortunately, RDJ subsequently found himself caught in a never-ending spiral of drugs, booze and other silly stuff, which almost destroyed his career for good.

Following numerous stints in rehab and a downfall that forced him to accept an Ally McBeal role (!!!), he finally cleaned himself up and rose back to fame, being nominated for another Academy Award and making more money than I can count while wearing a particularly fashionable iron suit.

Sadly, the four (and counting) on-screen appearances as “Iron Man”, as well as the two “Sherlock Holmes” movies, didn’t really allow Downey Jr. to remain on the Academy’s radar. Which brings me to the reason I was so psyched a minute ago – “The Judge”, the next RDJ starrer, looks like a prime Oscar 2015 candidate.

I know, talking about the 2015 Oscars sounds, well, stupid, at this point, but Warner Bros. has slated “The Judge” for an October 10, 2014 release and that has to mean something. Plot details are still slim, but we know Vera Farmiga, Robert Duvall and Billy Bob Thornton will also star in the legal drama, which is another very promising piece of info. Fingers crossed, Mr. Stark!
