Following a number of glorious box-office duds, including “The Watch” and “The Internship”, former comedy golden boy Vince Vaughn needs to desperately put a couple in the win column so as not to be forced to cross over to TV. You know, the bad kind of TV, not the HBO, FX or Showtime kind.
But while it’s a little too early to call it, it appears this fall’s “Delivery Man” might be Vaughn’s biggest hit since… well, “Couples Retreat”, which was painful to watch for most normal people, but somehow grossed $170 million worldwide on a $70 mil budget.
“Delivery Man” is still a good three months away from opening and looks pretty risky, being a remake of a two year-old Canadian comedy, but Vaughn has already signed up for another movie directed by Ken Scott, which can’t be a coincidence.
And “Business Trip”, this 2014 comedy, is to be penned by Steve Conrad, which has the fantastic-looking “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” in the pipeline. Plus, the cast (for “Business Trip”, not “Walter Mitty”) will reportedly also include Dave Franco, James Marsden and Nick Frost.
The last two are said to still be in negotiations with New Regency, but it’s probably only a matter of time until they will be fully on board. Marsden can be seen in theaters these days in the sleeper box-office hit “The Butler” and will appear next to Vaughn in “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” later this year, whereas Frost is getting rave reviews for “The World’s End”, starring next in “Cuban Fury”, opposite Rashida Jones.
