Comedy nerds, rejoice. Get a Life, the bizarre, short-lived, and spectacular sitcom about Chris Elliott’s grown-up, mentally stunted paperboy, will be released on DVD September 18.

Here’s what you need to know, according to the good folks at Laughspin:

Shout! Factory is releasing the entire 2-season series as a 5-DVD set, which you can pre-order on Amazon now. We don’t know what’s included as far as special features yet, but at the very least it’s been confirmed that they’ve been given permission to keep the show’s beloved original theme, “Stand” by R.E.M.!

Not sure why that last sentence requires an exclamation point–or is even relevant–but whatever.

This is fantastic news and not just for fans of the show. Community devotees, prepare to have your minds blown. Long before that show’s creative eccentricity had everyone calling Dan Harmon a genius, Get a Life was airing episodes involving time travel, a vomiting alien named Spewey, and the community theater production of a “Cats”-like musical called “Zoo Animals on Wheels.” It was weird, unhinged, and absolutely hilarious. No two episodes were alike.

The talent associated with the show was staggering: Bob Odenkirk, Charlie Kaufman, David Mirkin (The Simpsons, director of the underrated “Heartbreakers”), and Adam Resnick (Late Night with David Letterman). And then you had Elliott, a master of absurdist/slapstick humor doing his thing.

Now all this glorious weirdness is on DVD, twenty years after the final episode. Sometimes, life is just too damn beautiful.
