Attention Banana Stand fanatics! There’s some new Arrested Development news and it’s sure to be BIG if you catch my drift. No? Okay well the Bluth family will finally be making their first appearance on the BIG screen. It’s about time the Bluth family found themselves on a screen big enough to house their gigantic personalities.

Arrested Development Movie

Well here’s the details. Previously, Creator Mitch Hurwitz and Netflix Chief Creative Officer Ted Sarandas revealed that there would be more Arrested Development on Netflix in the future. At that point, Hurtwitz said it would either be in the form of a movie or as a TV series, or both. Well good news, Hurwitz has announced that it will be both! Hurwitz is currently in the process of writing the movie. Someone bring that man some coffee!

Here’s what Mitch Hurwitz said about the Arrested Development movie to Rolling Stone:

I can’t get into much more detail because I don’t want to scare anybody off. I don’t want to be presumptuous about it. I don’t own the property outright – it’s a 20th Century Fox property. But everybody seems really into it and really eager to make a movie.

Hurwitz admitted that there is no set release date for the Arrested Development movie, but he did offer up this:

I’m hoping it happens as soon as possible. But I want to be very careful about not putting out false information. I want to get a time and tell everybody when it’s happening and not play with people. Right now, I’m trying to do something else for Netflix and a movie project and things. I’m always sort of superstitious about talking about this stuff before it
happens. It’s the best way to guarantee it doesn’t happen.

Say no more, Hurwitz. If it means an Arrested Development movie, I’m fine keeping things on the down low. Perhaps you could even give everyone who read the Rolling Stone interview a healthy dose of forget-me-nots.

Hurwitz admitted that Arrested Development’s last season was met with mixed reactions but he was aware that this would be the result before filming. Hurwitz compared the last season to Radiohead’s Kid A album which was met with mixed reviews when it was first released. Many called it a disappointing followup to their previous album OK Computer, but eventually fans came around to say that Kid A might have been better than Ok Computer. They just had to give it a chance.

Hurwitz said that after the Arrested Development movie hits theaters, a new season of the show will be released. That’s a lot of Tobias to look forward to!
