Batman buffs, AMC will have a Christopher Nolan trilogy digital IMAX showing culminating in a midnight viewing of “The Dark Knight Rises.” The Bat-time will be 6 p.m. on July 19. The Bat-Channel will be 76 of AMC’s 296 US locations. AMC will create a digital master for the first Nolan film, “Batman Begins.”It screened at 55 film-only IMAX locations when it debuted in 2005.
The IMAX package is $40 per ticket, while non-IMAX is $25. Both showings will give viewers a collectible lanyard poster, and members of the AMC Stubs reward program will get a $5 voucher for the day. “The Dark Knight Rises” takes place eight years after the events of “The Dark Knight.” Batman, who took the rap for the crimes Harvey Dent committed as Two-Face, is still a wanted fugitive. Now Bane, a vicious terrorist leader, starts an assault on Gotham City. Tom Hardy (“Inception”) plays the hulking villain. Anne Hathaway (“Brokeback Mountain”) will slip into the form-fitting threads of Selina Kyle, better known as Catwoman.
Nolan’s take on the Caped Crusader revived a franchise that had become a caricature of itself. “The Dark Knight” was one of the best comic book themed movies ever made. What will they do for an encore? I can’t wait to find out.
