Joss Whedon is one of the busiest men in Hollywood. He is currently working on The Avengers 2, supposedly he’s helping with the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, and now he’s got Ellen Page breathing down his neck (no offense, Ellen).
In the past, Whedon has said he would like to make a Kitty Pryde movie in the coming years. Whedon has long been a fan of X-Men’s Kitty Pryde and he has been quoted as saying the character inspired Buffy herself.
He’s already pitched the idea to the studio:
I’ve mentioned this to Marvel several times over the last couple of years: Kitty Pryde is out there. She’s a pretty fascinating character with a very visual power (“phasing” through solid objects) who, the last time I saw, was played by Oscar nominee Ellen Page. And they don’t seem to think that that’s awesome. I don’t know why—you know, I’m just sayin’.
Well, currently Kitty Pryde gets her screen time in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Ellen Page will be playing Pryde, but she has made it very clear that she would be more than willing to play the character in the future:
Well, I’m available! I love that, Kitty Pryde’s awesome. I’m super grateful to be the actress who’s gotten to be her, and you only desperately hope that the true fans who have a right to demand what they want and who have been passionate about these stories for a really long time, that you can pull it off for them. I would be so thrilled to play Kitty Pryde again, I really would.
However, Fox currently owns the rights to X-Men so Whedon, the Marvel Man, might have some difficulty making his dream a reality.
Either way, it’s still fun to think about.
