According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has picked up a Katherine Heigl show described as a combination of Scandal and the West Wing. Her character is a maverick CIA agent who will become the president’s daily briefer. She’ll star and executive produce with The Following writer Alexi Hawley producing and doing scripts.
If the drama makes NBC’s lineup, it would be Heigl’s first time on TV since her less than graceful exit from Grey’s Anatomy in 2010. She declined an Emmy nomination in 2008 due to material she felt didn’t warrant the nod. Then there were tense salary negotiations, and finally Heigl left to pursue other creative opportunities.
Among those were a string of forgettable films such as “One for the Money.” The warm glow of episodic TV has to look pretty good to her right now. NBC is in need of the star power Heigl may still bring to the table. Whatever happens, this is a project that will have tongues wagging. We’ll keep you posted as it develops.
