Explosions in the Sky is an instrumental-rock group from Texas that’s best known for providing a great chunk of the background music for Friday Night Lights, both the TV show and movie. It’s hard to think of a TV show in the past couple of decades that’s been helped more by its score; hearing a Coach Taylor speech with that music under it is enough to make most viewers either cry, or run through a brick wall. Maybe both at once.
Here’s an example, from the show’s pilot, which is probably the best two minutes in the whole five seasons:
Anyway, according to Indiewire, the group will provide the score for “Prince Avalanche,” an upcoming film starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch and directed by David Gordon Green. Green previously used Explosions in the Sky for his movies “All The Real Girls” and “Snow Angels.”
