Porn. The 1980s. The FBI. Lots of mustaches. Probably.

That’s the formula of a new TV series in development, called WonderWorld, through actor Owen Wilson’s production company. Law & Order veteran Rene Balcer is the show runner, and the show is set to air on STARZ.

According to the Hollywood Reporter’s synopsis:

Set during the Reagan era and inspired by one of the biggest undercover operations in FBI history, WonderWorld revolves around two straight-arrow agents as they infiltrate the Mob-controlled porn industry of the 1980s, facing dire consequences for both themselves and their families.

Sounds a lot like The Americans, only instead of spies, they’re undercover porn… producers? Stars? Whatever Philip Seymour Hoffman’s job was in “Boogie Nights’? Because if they’re actually undercover as performers, things could really get interesting. It might even have as much as illicit sex as The Americans.

Then again, the last time a major network tried to produce a show about law enforcement squaring off against pornographers, this happened:

There’s no word on casting, but unfortunately, we won’t have a Skin reunion, as Ron Silver isn’t still alive and Olivia Wilde is probably too busy.

Also, if the show is called WonderWorld, you just know everyone’s going to call it either “Waterworld” or “Wonderwall” by mistake.
