Comedian Louis CK said earlier this week that he would sell tickets to his upcoming standup tour directly from his website at $45 a pop. It appears the gambit was an immediate success.
According to the comedy website Laughspin, CK’s tour sold 80,000 tickets, grossing more than $4 million, in the first 24 hours of the offer. That’s a lot of cash, and not a penny of it will go to TicketMaster.
The tour starts in October, but CK’s FX comedy Louie has its season premiere Thursday night.
