In what may very well go down as the greatest moment in the history of Jewish comic book culture since Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster sat down to create Superman in 1933, an Israeli woman has been cast as Wonder Woman.
Gal Gadot, the Israeli-born actress and model best known for her appearances in the last three “Fast & Furious” movies, will play Wonder Woman in Zach Snyder’s upcoming Batman/Superman blockbuster, Deadline.com reported Wednesday, along with official confirmation from Snyder himself:
“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.
The 28-year-old Gadot, was Miss Israel in 2004, and was discovered by Hollywood following her participation in a “Women of the Israeli army” spread in Maxim in 2007. She starred in “Fast & Furious,” “Fast Five” and “Fast & Furious 6″ as ex-Mossad badass Gisele Harabo, although her character was killed off in the last film.
Earlier this week, Gadot posted a message to Facebook in both English and Hebrew mourning the passing of her co-star Paul Walker.
