HBO’s mini-genre of docudramas dramatizing recent political history, which has included Recount, Too Big to Fail and Game Change, will soon get another installment.

Deadline reported Thursday that the network is working on a biopic of Roger Ailes, the former Nixon aide who founded and has supervised Fox News Channel since its inception. The project, according to the report, is based on a book manuscript by journalist Gabriel Sherman, who has profiled Ailes for New York magazine. More strangely, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the co-hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe show, are listed as executive producers.

No script has been written, nor has Sherman’s book been published, so the project is likely at least a couple of years away from fruition. There’s no word on casting, but might I suggest Philip Seymour Hoffman, or possibly Paul Giamatti, even if it requires jowel-face?

UPDATE: HBO now says they are no longer pursuing the Ailes project.
