Whatever it is you’re doing right now, I’m going to need you to stop and reflect on just how blessed you are. Be grateful you live in an era where you have the freedom to watch one of the weirdest casts ever assembled in a mainstream movie.
Yes, according to The Verge – in addition to Michael Rooker, Chris Pratt, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close – Vin Diesel will be playing Groot in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie. For the uninitiated, Groot is a sentient, tree-like creature somewhat similar to the Ents from the “Lord of the Rings” series.
This news doesn’t come as too much of a surprise considering that Diesel has been openly discussing the role for months. Back in August he talked to the Los Angeles Times about possibly playing “the strangest Marvel character.” Which, as a Marvel Comics nerd extraordinaire, I have to laugh because Groot isn’t Marvel’s strangest character. That’s Sluk the muppet-y, Flying Spaghetti Monster look-a-like that was introduced and instantly killed off within an issue of “X-Force.” With all due respect Mr. Diesel, get your facts straight (I’m sorry. Please don’t punch me).
“Guardians of the Galaxy” is due to hit theaters on August 14, 2014. And by that point Thomas Pynchon, Nikki Hilton and the ghost of Fred “Rerun” Berry will probably be added to the cast.
