WWE, ever since announcing last month that it would host an event at International CES, featuring a “groundbreaking announcement,” has been subject of rumors that the event would introduce a new 24-hour WWE Network. That has now apparently been confirmed.
According to the SB Nation pro wrestling blog Cage Side Seats, WWE sent out a press release about the event earlier this week- but gave it the title “WWE Event Reminder: WWE Network Announcement scheduled for Wednesday, January 8.”
The event, scheduled for the Wynn Las Vegas on Wednesday night, will be hosted by WWE head Vince McMahon, with a star-studded guest list that includes Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena and McMahon’s daughter Stephanie McMahon, also a WWE executive.
It remains unknown exactly what form the WWE Network will take, with some rumors in recent months indicating that the network will use some type of non-traditional distribution. But it will use footage from WWE’s extensive, decades-spanning library of video, of both its own history and those of its since-shuttered competitors.
WWE’s event will also be streamed live at WWE’s app as well as its other social media channels.
