Just as FX crime series Justified was kicking off a highly anticipated brand new season of prime and delicious Kentucky-set shoot’ em up play, FX network executive Nick Grad dropped a doozy on us veteran Raylan Givens Boyd Crowder fans: the show is currently planned to end after next year’s season six. Worst… timing… ever!
For bad news, that is, not necessarily the finale of the series. Because the reasoning behind the potential axing sounds about right: “Going out at the right time is going to make your show last forever – we want to make shows that stand the test of time.”
So you see, it’s not a matter of Justified having gone stale, it’s that it could very well collapse one of these days. Especially after the loss last year of co-executive producer Elmore Leonard, whose books provided the source material for the series.
Besides, nothing’s set in stone yet, so even aficionados dreaming ofJustifiedstaying on air forever and ever can still cling to hope. Right now, let’s enjoy what looks like a very promising season five, starring Jere Burns as Wynn Duffy in a series regular role and Michael Rapaport and Amy Smart as guests. Fire in the hole!
