Rising star Emma Watson had a… mixed, eclectic couple of recent years following the inevitable end of the “Harry Potter” saga, shining in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, then missing the mark with “The Bling Ring”, and looking woefully out of place in “This is the End”
But the Brit might finally break away from the Hermione Granger alter-ego threatening to hover over her entire career, thanks to Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming “Noah”, and especially “Regression”. The latter, directed and written by Alejandro Amenabar, is currently in pre-production, being acquired by The Weinstein Company not long ago.
With Ethan Hawke on board for the male lead role, the producing team was seeking a young female talent, though details are murky at this time as to Watson’s character. Since the vague plot summary released to the press says Hawke will play a father accused of his daughter’s sexual assault, which he has no recollection of, the best guess is Watson shall tackle the daughter part.
Yikes, sounds intense. Which is not a bad thing, mind you, when Amenabar, the guy behind 2001’s uber-creepy “The Others”, is backstage working his magic. The auteur is one of the project’s producers too, alongside Fernando Bovaira (“The Others”, “Vanilla Sky”, “The Sea Inside”).
Goodbye, Hermione, it was nice knowing you, but now it’s time for Emma Watson to take things to the next level.
