TV manufacturers, in an effort to, you know, sell more TVs, have in recent years begun to add “smart TV” apps to the sets, making it possible for the user to view Internet content through their TVs. Survey after survey has found that the most popular on-TV apps are ones that enable viewing of video.
A Harris Poll released this week bears that out. The poll found that among respondents who currently own a smart TV, the most “must-have” app is Netflix (47 percent), followed by YouTube (44 percent). Amazon Instant Video (34 percent) is fourth, behind Facebook, while radio app Pandora is fifth (28 percent.) The preference is in the same order when those who don’t own smart TVs are asked.
