this is the endThe American Comedy Awards are coming back after a more than a decade. The first incarnation ran from 1987-2001, starting on ABC and in its final year airing on Comedy Central. The new ACA will air May 15 on NBC, honoring categories in film, TV and live comedy specials among others. In a nod to the times we live in, there will be an award for the funniest viral video as well. I don’t know how anybody beats Bad Lip Reading from the NFL in that category, but we’ll see soon enough.

Seth Rogen earned lots of love in the nominations. He’s up for best comedic actor and, screenplay in a film and director for “This is The End.” That one also earned a nomination for Danny McBride as supporting actor. These awards will honor live comedy performances as well, with a category for best club comic. The public is allowed to vote in all 19 categories through the American Comedy Awards site or its Facebook page. So let your voice and your laughter be heard.

I’m ordinarily reluctant to call for yet another awards show, but this has the potential to be much funnier than the other 900 of them.
