The latest trailer for director Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master was revealed today, featuring Joaquin Phoenixas a WWII veteran that is progressively losing his grip on reality and his own emotions. He encounters Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the leader of a religious organization in which Freddie becomes an involved member. Though Freddie first finds safety with Lancaster and his wife (Amy Adams), he soon begins to question the group’s authenticity as others warn him that it’s a cult.
There is speculation that the storyline is meant to echo L. Ron Hubbard’s original creation of the controversial religion Scientology. Whether or not there is truth behind this though, the movie looks beautifully shot and hauntingly well acted, promising for a rewarding cinematic experience when it comes to theaters October 12.
