Like most people, I’m a little ashamed by how much I enjoy the “Police Academy” series. I’m not proud of the fact that my most cherished childhood memory is my mother taking me to see “Police Academy 6: City Under Siege” on its opening night. I don’t like that I can quote large sections of “Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol” almost verbatim. It doesn’t swell me with pride knowing that if I had a pet cat I’d call it Tackleberry.
But thankfully, there is some good news for people who need to lock their bedroom door and turn out the lights to watch a man make crazy sound effects as he pretends to be a robot. According to Laughspin, Peabody award winning comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele could be turning this guilty pleasure into a guilt-free, no-strings attached pleasure.
Apart from tKey and Peele producing this project, it’s unknown at this time if they will be starring in it (although, I can easily picture Michael Key playing a comically abusive Captain Harris type) or if the storyline will serve as a send-up/tribute to the 1984 original or take the concept in a totally new direction.
What is known, however, is that when this reboot is finally released, you can bank on the fact that my mother, my cat Tackleberry and I will be camped outside the theater to see this. We’ll be tucked inside a tent made from the discarded one sheets of “Police Academy: Mission to Moscow”. Don’t ignore us! Look us in the eye and say hello!
