Sarah Palin (Tina Fey) and Hillary Clinton (Amy Poehler) confer during the 2008 campaign

The legend of Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin impression was cemented, in the fall of 2008, not only on Saturday Night Live itself but on a series of primetime specials that NBC aired on Thursday nights.

According to the Wrap, the show plans to air two primetime election specials on Thursday nights this September- on the 20th and 27th. SNL has also traditionally aired “presidential special” clip shows around election time, consisting of classic sketches, but it’s unclear if such a special is planned this year.

Whether the show has another iconic election bit in them will likely have a lot to do with who Mitt Romney picks as his running mate and what direction the race goes.
