Although ratings are still strong and even Emmy voters seem to go nuts about The Voice nowadays, NBC is going the extra mile to ensure the singing competition doesn’t suddenly go stale. As such, not only is the Peacock’s continuous coach rotation set to carry on, but new names are also added in the mix.
Cee Lo Green is out, probably for good, Pharrell Williams is in, temporarily we presume, and it looks like Christina Aguilera’s hiatus will last a little longer than first anticipated. No, her part-time sub, Shakira, isn’t poised to go two consecutive seasons on network TV, instead Gwen Stefani signing on to replace “Xtina” in the fall.
Unlike Cee Lo however, Aguilera is on board for a season 8 comeback, needing time off to give birth to her second child. Where does that leave Shakira exactly? Up in the air, albeit it’s not out of the question to see one of these days a coach lineup comprised of two gals and two dudes. Maybe even three ladies and a gentleman. Girl power, am I right?
Realistically speaking, the season 7 roster will most likely consist of veterans Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, without which ratings may well plunge, plus rookies Pharrell and Gwen Stefani. Season 8? My money’s on Adam, Blake, Usher and Christina.
