Deadline New York is reporting that Steve Pink, John Cusack’s longtime collaborator and the director of “Hot Tub Time Machine,” is in “early talks to rewrite and direct” a sequel to 2003’s “Bad Santa.”
Billy Bob Thornton is set to reprise his role as the safe-cracking, hard-drinking department store Santa. (That’s a good thing, by the way. It’s one of Thorton’s best performances.) Other details are scarce at the moment, including whether other cast members like Tony Cox and Lauren Graham will return. Personally, I’d love to see what Thurman Murman is up to a decade later.
I’m up for a sequel as long as Pink doesn’t domesticate Thornton. Let him run amok the way director Terry Zwigoff and writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa did.
