You’ve already heard that James Franco is interested in bringing “The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made,” actor Greg Sestero’s memoir of his part in Tommy Wiseau’s cult classic “The Room,” to the big screen. Subsequent reports have Franco directing the movie, and possibly even starring in it as Wiseau.
Now, there’s a report that Franco’s brother, Dave Franco (from “21 Jump Street” and “Neighbors”) is in line to co-star in the film, as Sestero.
Take this with a grain of salt, because if the last several years of “The Room” cult have taught us anything, it’s that you can never trust anything Tommy Wiseau says, especially in a live Q&A. But according to New Zealand’s 3 News, this happened:
The Room had one of its monthly screenings in Los Angeles last night, curated by the film’s star, director, writer and producer Tommy Wiseau.
To the crowd’s delight, actor Dave Franco stood up during a Q&A session and asked: “Tommy, how do you feel about me playing Greg Sestero in the movie?”
The crowd erupted into cheers.
“That’s what I say: It’s a good choice!” said Wiseau.
Should that be construed as a confirmation that Dave Franco will in fact be playing Greg Sestero/Mark? Of course not, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility either. After all, I her he knows the director.
