As has been reported previously, Peter Jackson’s upcoming film adaptation of The Hobbit will be split into three movies. Why each long, complex Lord of the Rings novel warranted only one feature film and a comparatively straightforward, shorter novel warrants its own trilogy is anyone’s guess.
Part one of The Hobbit is to be subtitled “An Unexpected Journey”. The second official full length trailer for the film, which is to be released in December of this year, debuted last week. In it, Martin Freeman portrays protagonist Bilbo Baggins, kinsman of Frodo Baggins, the protagonist of The Lord of the Rings. Ian McKellen reprises his role as Gandalf and at the end there is a bit of Andy Serkis once again lending his voice and physical performance to the character of Gollum. Watch the trailer below:
