Box Office Report: “Bourne” Bests Batman

Here’s your box office report for this past weekend (complete with snarky commentary).

1.) ”The Bourne Legacy,” $40.3M. I didn’t really miss Matt Damon in the lead role since Jeremy Renner is now the junior version of Liam Neeson. But I did miss Dennis Boutsikaris’ beard. That thing was a work art of art.

2.) “The Campaign,” $27.4M. Nice haul for the Will Ferrell/Zach Galifianakis comedy. Expect to it be around for a while since everyone has seen “Ted” at this point.

3.) “The Dark Knight Rises,” $19.3M. Confession time: I loved the series, but I always thought Christian Bale looked weird in the mask, like a fat kid pressing his face against a window.

4.) “Hope Springs,” $15.6M. Want to see this, but I would have rushed to the multiplex if the two actors originally cast in the lead roles (Jeff Bridges and Philip Seymour Hoffman) had worked out.

5.) “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,” $8.2M. Anyone who thought this would outlast “The Watch” and “Total Recall” in the top 5, raise your hand.
