She has already appeared on American Dreams, Girlfriends and The Hughleys. Now BET is working with Rowland on a comedy pilot. What Would Dylan Do casts Rowland as a Los Angeles relationship blogger. Also in the cast are The Game’s Gabrielle Dennis and Melanie Liburd from Strike Back.
The show’s executive producer is Warren Hutcherson, who worked on The Bernie Mac Show, Moesha and was a consulting producer on Everybody Hates Chris. Rowland is certainly staying busy. She was a judge on the British version of X-Factor last year and has a new R&B album coming out before the end of 2012.
For years, BET was primarily the home of video countdowns and sitcom reruns. The network has been doing more original programming recently. It saved former CW sitcom The Game to anchor a block of comedies with predominantly African-American casts. Rowland’s show should fit right in. It’s only a pilot, but Rowland’s fanbase goes a long way toward ensuring its pickup.
