The long search for a new Kelly Ripa cohost is over. Former NFL star Michael Strahan will step into Regis Philbin’s chair on daytime talk show Live this fall, Broadcasting and Cable reported Tuesday. The news was later confirmed by an ABC executive.
Strahan was among the many guest hosts who had sat in along with Ripa since Philbin retired last year.
The gap-toothed, 40-year-old former defensive end played his entire football career with the New York Giants before retiring in 2008. He briefly starred on a Fox sitcom called Brothers and has been part of the Fox NFL Sunday studio pre-game show since the end of his playing career, a gig that he will reportedly retain along with his new Live responsibilities.
