“Thor: The Dark World” is getting quite a cast together. Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston and of course, the Thunder God himself, Chris Hemsworth are returning.

Variety reports that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has signed on to play a villain. He’ll suit up as Algrim the Strong, who is transformed into a being called Kurse during the movie.

In the comics, Algrim is among the strongest of the Dark Elves. A defeat causes everyone’s favorite plot device, amnesia. He remembers only that he hates Thor and suffered defeat at his hands. The newly christened Kurse manages to become even stronger than the Norse thunder god. Malekith the Accursed, leader of the Dark Elves, is an important character in Kurse’s origin as well. Christopher Eccleston, the ninth Doctor Who, will play Malekith. Sci-fi faithful have a lot of reasons to look forward to this one.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje is building a fine sci-fi and fantasy portfolio himself. He appeared on Lost as the tortured Mr. Eko, and fought against Brendan Fraser in The Mummy Returns. He’ll likely always be first identified as Simon Adebisi, one of the most notorious prisoners in HBO’s Oz.
