Lucasfilm announced release dates for the 3D versions of “Star Wars” Episodes II and III at Orlando’s Star Wars Celebration VI. “Attack of The Clones” is coming September 20, 2013, with “Revenge of the Sith” hitting October 11. September will be a big month for 3D screens.
In addition to the Star Wars prequel, Disney hit “The Little Mermaid” is slated for September. “Revenge of the Sith” is coming around the same time as much anticipated sequel “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.”
Fox re-released “Star Wars Episode 1:The Phantom Menace” February 10. It raked in $102.7 million worldwide. That’s more than a lot of films made this year in their first release. Initially, Lucasfilm had planned to release prequels one at a time annually. It’s probably hard for everyone involved to say no if Episodes II and III can pull in similar numbers to the initial prequel going back-to-back. The Force is strong in 3D. There’s still the goldmine of a 3D release for the original trilogy at some point.
