Matt Damon’s Movie “Promise Land” Moved Forward to Oscar Season

2013′s Academy Awards has a new contender with the release date of “Promised Land” pushed forward to Dec. 28 to qualify for consideration, Variety reported last week.

The movie was written by the two leads, Matt Damon and John Krasinski, and is about a salesman (Damon) who comes to a small town to persuade the citizens to allow fracking, but meets resistance from Krasinski and the other locals.

While it was originally was to be directed by Damon, he backed out and was replaced by his “Good Will Hunting” collaborator Gus Van Sant.
