The “comedian slot” on the Fox NFL Sunday pre game show, held in the past by Jimmy Kimmel and Frank Caliendo, has a new occupant: former Daily Show and comedy movie perennial Rob Riggle.
According to ProFootballTalk, Riggle’s arrival was announced during a preseason game over the weekend. He will debut on Sept. 9, the first Sunday of the regular season.
Riggle, who in addition to his comedy career is a United States Marine Corps Reserve officer, doesn’t have much of a sports background, and isn’t really known as an impressionist, so the Fox show is going in a different direction. However, Riggle has a much less spotty record of being funny than the man he’s replacing, Caliendo.
