Here’s your box office report for the past weekend (complete with snarky commentary):

1.) “The Possession,” $17.7M. Forget about this. History was made this weekend, folks. “The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure” had the worst box-office opening ever. According to The Wrap, “Oogieloves” took in $448,000 from 2,160 screens between Friday and Sunday. That’s a $207 per-screen average for a movie that cost $55 million to make.

Here’s the preview. Someone tell me: where did that money go?

2.) “Lawless,” $9.7M. I really thought this would land at number one considering the starry cast. Blame the Oogieloves, I guess.

3.) “The Expendables 2,” $8.8M. With his son and sister having died within weeks of each other, I don’t think Sylvester Stallone needs my cattiness. Just an awful thing to happen.

4.) “The Bourne Legacy,” $7.3M. Closing in on $100 million, a number that really isn’t as big a deal as it used to be–kind of like the 500 home run club.

5.) “ParaNorman,” $6.6M. Edges out “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” which is having a nice little run itself (nearly $36 million in three weeks). Fun fact: the difference between these two films is about how much “Oogieloves” made this weekend.
