A planned Broadway musical based on Tim Burton’s 2003 film “Big Fish” will open in Chicago early next year, with an eye towards a Broadway debut next fall, The Wrap reported.
Norbert Leo Butz will star in the musical in the role played by Ewan McGregor on-screen. John August, who wrote the film’s screenplay, is the author of the book, with Andrew Lippa writing the music and lyrics.
The film, which starred McGregor, Billy Crudup, Albert Finney and Marion Cotillard, told the story of a young man visiting his dying father, who had long told tall tales about his adventure-filled life, as the story toggled back and forth between the stories and the storytelling.
