Here’s your box office report for the past weekend (complete with snarky commentary):
.) “Resident Evil: Retribution,” $20.6M. Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson are the Gena Rowlands and John Cassavetes of…something.
.) “Finding Nemo,” $17.5M. Impressive debut for the 3D release of the animated classic.
.) “The Possession,” $5.8M. Remember last week when I predicted there was a good chance that the horror flick would grab the top spot for a third straight week because of a weak slate of new releases? Yeah, forget what I wrote.
.) “Lawless,” $4.2M. Seems like this has been in the top 5 since May. I’m running out of things to write about it.
.) “ParaNorman,” $3.0M. Looking back, releasing the movie in mid-August was shrewd. Release it now and it runs into “Finding Nemo” with “Hotel Transylvania” and “Frankenweenie” coming around the bend.
