Here’s your box office report for the past weekend (complete with snarky commentary):
.) “End of Watch,” $13M. This may mark Jake Gyllenhaal’s commercial resurgence, but I’m happier for Michael Pena. He’s consistently good, even in middling outings like “30 Minutes or Less” and “Tower Heist.” The guy deserves to headline a hit.
.) “Trouble with the Curve,” $12.7M. Unfortunately, I saw this over the weekend. Clint Eastwood has become a bitter old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn.
.) “Finding Nemo,” $9.5M. When a friend of mine mentioned that this marked his son’s first trip to the movies, the logic of a re release finally clicked.
.) “Resident Evil: Retribution,” $6.7M. Words you’ll never hear: “My first movie was ‘Resident Evil: Retribution.’”
