A man best known for televised animation, whose one prominent movie role to date was as the voice of talking teddy bear, is the host of next year’s Academy Awards.
Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy and several other Fox animated shows, and director/star of the recent hit comedy “Ted,” will host the show on Feb. 24, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday.
The choice may be the most unconventional in Oscar history, although MacFarlane did recently enjoy a well-received turn as host of Saturday Night Live‘s season premiere.
