Citing her busy schedule, singer Beyonce will not appear in director Clint Eastwood’s remake of “A Star Is Born.” This leaves the project without a male or female lead and no timetable to start filming. Beyonce’s recent pregnancy and Eastwood’s starring turn in “Trouble with the Curve” were the latest snags in getting this production started.
The movie, already remade a few times, tells the story of a young woman whose career is on the rise. She falls in love with an older man with a declining entertainment career. The most recent version featured Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Variety reports Eastwood has expressed interest in jazz musician Esperanza Spalding. She shocked the music world by upsetting Justin Bieber to win the Best New Artist Grammy in 2011. Spalding is the first jazz artist to win the award.
It also said no decision on the female lead will happen until the male lead is cast. Names discussed there include Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp and Bradley Cooper.
I’d imagine you have to approach that job offer delicately. Hey, we’d like you to play a fading star! No, I’m not saying anything about your career, we just think you’d be good at… Hello?
