The Marvel TV panel at New York Comic-Con officially announced the return of Agent Phil Coulson to the ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV series on Saturday, writes Entertainment Weekly. Made public by writer and executive producer Joss Whedon, the role will again be played by Clark Gregg, who also made an appearance at the event.
Featured as Agent Coulson in the “The Avengers” film, as well as “Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2″ and “Thor,” Gregg’s character was apparently killed off in “The Avengers.” The TV spin-off of “The Avengers” is said by the director to “run alongside Marvel’s cinematic universe but with less of a superhero focus” and is currently in production.
Due to the demise of Coulson in the movie, speculators are currently trying to make sense of the news. Will Agent Coulson appear only through flashbacks or will reality be suspended in disregard of the characters death?
The series is slated to debut in 2013.
