Mass Effect, EA’s galaxy-spanning RPG trilogy, is full of big action and big characters. It’s no surprise Hollywood is thinking blockbuster movie.

Variety reports Legendary Entertainment has hired Morgan Davis Foehl to write the screenplay. It should stay true to the source material. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, co-founders of Mass Effect developer BioWare, and Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson are all onboard as producers.

The bestselling RPG features Commander Shepard, an elite agent of the Council that controls interstellar affairs in the year 2183. Shepard can be male or female depending on the gamer’s preference.  Shepard is pulling together the galaxy’s resources to fend off The Reapers, a mechanical race that wipes out all organic life every 50,000 years. To succeed, he must forge alliances between numerous alien races, many of whom hate each other.

Publisher EA is eager to turn its slate of hit games into popular movies. In addition to Mass Effect,  it has pitched Dead Space and Need for Speed flicks.
