The second season of Lena Dunham’s buzzed-about HBO series Girls doesn’t even start until airing until January, but the series has been renewed for a third season which is about to begin production.

Director and comedy king Judd Apatow, who is a producer on Girls,  spilled the beans at the tail end of a 30-minute online interview with journalist David Poland about his upcoming film, “This is 40.” Dunham has a small part in the film, which comes out in December.

According to Deadline, HBO is seeking to finish up a deal with executive producer Jenni Konner, with production on the season to follow early next year. The network has not officially announced the renewal.
