(UPDATE November 27: The State Department, according to ABC News, has nixed its sponsorship of Andrew W.K.’s visit to the Middle East. A spokeswoman at State told reporters that after reviewing “the body of his work,” the department chose to not spend government funds on the trip. W.K. confirmed the news on his website and vowed to release a statement soon.)
When it’s time to party, we will visit the Persian Gulf?
Yes, that’s right. The U.S. Department of State has dispatched rock star/partier-extraordinaire Andrew W.K. to the Middle East as a cultural ambassador.
Andrew’s website says that he will be visiting elementary schools, the University of Bahrain, music venues and other locations throughout Bahrain next month. He will be “promoting partying and world peace.”
Music aside, you got to love this guy. I’m no expert, but I do believe that Mr. W.K. will be our nation’s first international representative of partying (and I support that.) His thoughts concerning the opportunity, so sincerely stated:
“This is a tremendous invitation. I’m very thankful to the Department of State for giving me the opportunity to visit a place I’ve never been before. And I feel very priviledged and humbled by the chance to represent the United States of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying. I can hardly wait for this adventure!”
