Looks like moviegoers just can’t get enough of demons with fire-covered, facial tattoos and creepy old ladies with tattered, black dresses.
Just for the record, you can count me as one of them.
Horror movie fans definitely received something to be thankful for, as the announcement of a sequel to the 2010 low-budget, incredibly scary, cinematic ghost story “Insidious” came during Thanksgiving week. FilmDistrict, Alliance Films, and Sony Pictures Worldwide have announced the film’s U.S. release date to be somewhere near August 30, 2013.
The film, which according to IMDb will be called “Insidious Chapter 2,” will feature quite a few returning cast members. Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye and Ty Simpkins are all back to reprise their roles. Director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell, who teamed-up to make the first film, will also be back to “further” the story along.
If the duo of Wan and Whannell looks familiar to horror fans, they should. The two previously combined their creative efforts to give the world the initial entry in the torture-porn franchise “Saw” back in 2004, as well as the underrated “Dead Silence” in 2007.
Another creator of a successful scary movie franchise – in this case, “Paranormal Activity” back in 2007 – Oren Peli will be Executive Producing, as are Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Steven Schneider and Charles Layton. In addition, Blumhouse Productions, headed by “Insidious” producer Jason Blum, is signed on for number two.
Production is set to start in Los Angeles sometime around January 15.
In the meantime, did anyone get that “further” reference? I was proud of that one.
